National Association of Drug Court Professionals Achievements

The secretary of the River Parish Juvenile Justice Commission, St. Charles Parish District Court Judge Michele Morel is a member of the American Judges Association. Judge Michele Morel also maintains membership with the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP).

Founded in 1994, the NADCP is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization comprised of judges, attorneys, clinical professionals, and other legal practitioners. The group integrates drug treatment programs into the judicial process, also known as drug court, with the intent to transform the lives of drug-use offenders.

To date, drug court has saved taxpayers $3.36 in criminal justice expenses for each dollar spent in executing the program. In addition, the system shows impactful results: 75 percent of drug court graduates maintain an arrest-free record for a minimum of two years following their participation. Other achievements derived from drug court include a reduction in methamphetamine use by 50 percent compared to outpatient treatment alone, and up to $13,000 savings in prison, trial, and victimization expenditures for a single client.
